R&D is a damn good mod. It takes all the fun out of the game, though. I love the idea, and the dev who put it together is an awesome guy, but I wish the mod would have been released a little bit later. I don't really like the idea that the mod makes some of your stats depend on what items you have, as while I do enjoy the idea of stacking some stats to make my stats look awesome, and I do enjoy the idea of stacking skills to make my characters look awesome, I don't like how they're dependent on other stats. I don't use any of the other R&D mods, but I know I've played a character with a mod that let's you put skills on a giant number that you can roll for. I like this idea as I enjoy the idea of stacking stats, but I wish the mod would have been released a little bit later to allow for the character to be balanced against other characters. It might be a great idea, but I don't like how it works too much against my own. That said, I know it's the case that some of the mods will be useless to people who don't fully understand how the game works, and I'm fine with that. I'm just sad for the people who found a mod that lets them stack skills they like, but they're being forced to use mods that won't be useful to them. If you want to know more about R&D, check out my blog post. I have a lot more to say about it, but I've had a lot of trouble getting the mod to talk to me, so I might have to fix it by hand.
Utility mods are cool. I love them. If you're the kind of player that likes to learn the game and understands how to use character builds, please PLEASE use the mod. It makes the game much easier and the mod author has done a wonderful job of making them easily accessible. Personally, I don't use any of the utility mods, but the mod author has made them more or less a requirement. I have two of the best mods in the game in this regard: Extended Inventory and Quicksaving.
Also, I am intrigued by the thought of the game having skill trees. I was thinking about a 'Sharing' tree where the player could share XP with other characters. I don't know if it's possible in the game, but I don't see why it couldn't be.
The hardest part of this mod is just getting the models into the game. All of the reskins for the human models are still there, just with different names (a good part of why I would like to use them). However, I forgot how the names were made up. I had to look it up. Also, my little research and testing into the modding command has told me that Wu the Lotus Blossom is the only playable female character in the game. However, she is not a unique character. She is a playable character. So the character creator shows you the exact same model with different stats. You can swap them out and it does not invalidate the model. So if you have a model of Wu the Lotus Blossom, then with this mod installed, you can change the names of the models to any NPC you want to use with the same stats as the model in the game.
Also, thank you for your work on this. I hope that the mods you guys have made for the game are as good as the one you made for Dawn Star! I, personally, enjoy the changes you have made with your work. I might even keep this one around for a bit as it is more or less what I wanted. I hope you continue to do more mods and that they continue to make Dawn Star a worthwhile experience for everyone. I'm currently in the middle of a new playthrough and am going through pretty well without having to respec, so that's always a good thing. 827ec27edc
