However, the best thing about this film is it doesn't try to be 'The Matrix'. There are no cheesy dialogue and you don't feel like you are watching some kind of sci-fi film. This is just a riveting drama, but with a considerable amount of action. The story doesn't rely on the drama of relationships, and instead focuses on the characters' motivations. All the characters have a reason to be in the film (even the computer chip back at the beginning).
'Lit' is so intense that it's almost impossible to put down once the credits start rolling. I suggest renting this film and viewing it on an IMAX screen. I was actually not expecting it to be that good, but it's the best movie I've seen in years. Give it a look!
The first thing that struck me was of course, Chris Weitz. His work on 'About A Boy' had been really, really good and he proves it again here. He has an amazing sense for filmmaking. His use of handheld and crane shots are very well done (some of the best cinematography ever). His use of lighting is at times a little too extreme, but in the scenes in which there is a bit of darkness, it works very well. (You can see an example of this in the train scene with the lantern).Also, this movie is an excellent showcase for Christopher Eccleston, who I'm very happy to say has really started to get some good roles. He has such a great presence and he really plays his role well, he's very likeable and gets the best out of his character.
This is a very beautiful film. It's every inch a classic. The pacing is perfect. The movie has an outstanding score and the action and visual effects are amazing. The film doesn't disappoint and proves that its for the genre. This is one of the best films I have seen in a long time.
...and for you, the non-UK fans out there, you'll notice that the credits for this film begin with 'La Mano Dura'. I thought that was pretty cool. I thought the whole film was cool in Spanish, so it was really nice that it was transliterated into English as well.
